My Teaching Philosophy
I have always dreamed of being a teacher. Being a support system for students who need a role model, and to provide them with a good education has always been a passion of mine. That passion helped me focus my career from a young age. I have had the opportunity to focus my education to develop and grow my skills as a teacher. Throughout my five years of field experience, I have created the following beliefs to help focus my classroom and to reach the goals I have for myself and my students.
I believe that a classroom should encourage all types of diversity. Students of all races, religions, and genders deserve an equal education. As a teacher, it is my job to assure that students feel safe, and accepted in their classroom. To me, diversity also relates to how students learn. It is important to create differentiated lessons that meet the needs of all students so that everyone can be successful.
I believe that a classroom should promote collaborative learning. Peers are some of the most important people in a classroom; they can often teach you more than a teacher can. Through collaborative learning, students can learn from and question one another’s ideas. Students need to learn to problem solve. Having a collaborative learning environment will help promote a supportive, motivational and positive classroom environment.
I believe that a classroom should contain a meaningful and relevant education. Content taught in the classroom should have a purpose. Students should be curious and interested in what they are learning. Content in the classroom should be relevant to the diversity of your students. It is important to get to know your students to create lessons that will motivate your students to learn and to ask questions.
Lastly, I believe that a teacher should be passionate and open to learning every day. Students are some of the best teachers in life; they help you see new points of views and remind you about what is important in life.
